Winter can bring unique hazards for pets. Cold temperatures, holiday hazards, and seasonal chemicals require extra care to keep your furry and exotic friends safe. Find below Winter Pet Safety tips for your pet.

Common Hazards:

Dogs and Cats:

  • Cold temperatures: Risk of frostbite and hypothermia

  • Antifreeze: Sweet-tasting but highly toxic

  • Salt and ice-melt chemicals: Can irritate paws and be toxic if ingested

  • Holiday plants: Poinsettias, mistletoe, holly

Exotic Pets:

  • Temperature-sensitive reptiles and amphibians may be affected by colder indoor air

  • Drafts and fluctuating heat in enclosures

Winter Pet Safety Tips:

  • Limit outdoor exposure and provide warm bedding

  • Wipe dog paws after walks to remove salt or chemicals

  • Keep antifreeze and cleaning products out of reach

  • Use safe plants or decorations away from pets
